Join The Aviation Think Tank!

Have you ever wondered what tomorrow’s air transport might look like? As the aviation think tank in Germany – consisting of young and ambitious experts from various disciplines – our goal is to provide science-based answers. Located in Taufkirchen near Munich, we offer a modern working environment with open ears and doors. We are always looking for passionate and creative minds to help us push today’s boundaries to new heights.
Shape the future of aviation with us today and join us as:

Your tasks:

  • You will participate as a Master’s Thesis student / Working student in the development of an advanced aerostructural analysis tool for transport aircraft wings
  • Therefore, you will work on the integration of this tool into our established processes, and ensuring the accuracy and reliability of its results
  • This can involve adding to or improving the functionalities of this tool, alongside conducting parametric studies to explore the design space for a given use case

Your qualification:

  • You are an enrolled Master's student (m/f/d) in Aerospace Engineering, Mechanical Engineering, or Computer Science with a technical background or a related field

  • You have an understanding of low-to-mid fidelity aerodynamic analysis methods (e.g., handbook methods, panel codes, VLM, and DLM)

  • You are familiar with the wing’s inner (especially, primary) structure, its major components, their functions, and how they can be modeled in medium-to-high fidelity structural analysis methods (e.g., linear/non-linear beam models/FEM)

  • Ideally, you already had first experiences with coupling aerodynamics and structural design methods (e.g., to assess the effects of gust and flutter on wing design)

  • Additionally, you possess a good knowledge of MATLAB (and optimally also Python). Ideally, you also have some experience with CPACS

  • You are willing to explore new areas within wing aerostructural design and have an independent way of working and good self-organization skills

  • You thrive in a connected team environment and are eager to improve

  • Your English is of high level, both spoken and written

What we offer:

  • Flexible Working Hours
  • Subsidised canteen
  • Company sports (football, running group)
  • Parking Lot
  • Good accessibility by public transport

What to expect:

  • International team with a high qualification level
  • Acknowledged research institution – with our feet on the ground and our thoughts in the air
  • Interdisciplinary cooperation of engineers, natural and social scientists
  • Modern working environment on the Ludwig Bölkow Campus in Taufkirchen near Munich
  • A team-oriented working culture
  • Flat hierarchies and short communication paths
  • Challenging tasks
  • Versatile, creative activities
  • Numerous opportunities to enhance and broaden your competencies

We look forward to receiving your application!
