Join The Aviation Think Tank!

Have you ever wondered what tomorrow’s air transport might look like? As the aviation think tank in Germany – consisting of young and ambitious experts from various disciplines – our goal is to provide science-based answers. Located in Taufkirchen near Munich, we offer a modern working environment with open ears and doors. We are always looking for passionate and creative minds to help us push today’s boundaries to new heights.
Shape the future of aviation with us today and join us as:

Your tasks:

  • In this role, you will extend a large-scale airline network optimization model by incorporating supply-demand interactions into passenger flows, flight frequencies, and aircraft deployment
  • A key part of the work will involve reviewing literature on demand modeling in airline and transportation optimization, with a focus on tractable elastic-demand and choice-based approaches
  • Based on this review, you will develop a model extension that links demand to service characteristics such as connectivity, travel time, or network structure
  • The proposed approach will be implemented in Python, integrated into the existing optimization framework, and tested on selected instances
  • Finally, you will compare the results with a fixed-demand baseline, analyze the effects on network design, and evaluate the trade-offs between realism and tractability

Your qualification:

  • You are an enrolled master’s student (m/f/d) in Operations Management, Operations Research, or a related quantitative field
  • You are interested in mathematical optimization, quantitative modeling, and decision-support models for complex systems
  • You ideally have experience in optimization, transport systems, or data-driven analysis through coursework, projects, or research
  • You have experience with Python and are comfortable implementing and testing quantitative models; Gurobi experience is an advantage
  • You are motivated to work at the interface of optimization and demand modeling; interest in aviation or airline operations is a plus

What we offer:

  • Flexible Working Hours
  • Subsidised canteen
  • Parking Lot
  • Good accessibility by public transport

What to expect:

  • International team with a high qualification level
