Our challenges:

  • Having a broad understanding of single contributions of radically efficient aircraft, novel energy options like battery-only, hydrogen and sustainable aviation fuels, novel aircraft and airline operations and demand management to achieve climate neutral aviation in 2050
  • Assessing, and evaluating future scenarios and trends for aviation (Bauhaus Luftfahrt Trend Monitor) and the overall impact of aviation on economic development
  • Early understanding and modeling of passenger demand, including public acceptance and travel behavior
  • Assessing the individual ecological, economic and social sustainability impacts of aviation
  • Developing transition pathways for aviation which are ecologically effective and economically efficient being inspired by other sectors
  • Developing policy options to support aviation’s transition

We need you because:

  • You are excited by our challenges and passionate to give scientific answers to aviation’s transition to climate neutrality
  • You have successfully completed your master’s degree, ideally in Economics or Transportation Systems Engineering or a related field
  • You have either already earned a PhD degree or you intend to obtain one
  • You are experienced in scenario/transition studies, sustainability/ESG assessment, climate impact assessment and policy development
  • You are willing to take responsibility for the Bauhaus Luftfahrt Trend Monitor
  • You have excellent analytical and good programming skills
  • You are familiar with advanced statistics, forecasting and Machine Learning /AI methods
  • Ideally, you have solid knowledge of airline finance (e.g., direct operating costs) and the associated uncertainties, inputs, and assumptions
  • You are interested in target-oriented tasks, in supporting project acquisition and in interdisciplinary teamwork
  • Creativity, reliability, preciseness, and self-reliance are among your strengths
  • You appreciate to work in joint academic or industry projects
  • You are proficient in English, and ideally have good communication skills in German
